Realities of Higher Ed Leadership in the Digital Age
The pressures of being an executive in higher education have never been more heightened. You are “on” 24/7, in campus roles that have become unstable and insecure based upon your board of trustees or campus president.
Your time continues to be taxed by an endless list of campus functions to have a presence at, fundraising to make up for your shrinking budgets, ensuring your campus is continually compliant with federal and state regulations and somehow maintaining or improving the overall reputation of your institution in the midst of public criticism of higher education.
You’ve lost track of the number of colleagues, staff, and students who have told you to get on (fill in the blank) social media application.
You’re thinking, when the heck will I have time for that?!
Opportunities For Higher Ed Leadership in the Digital Age
With a personalized and strategic online presence, campus leaders have more reach than ever before. The bar is rising higher and higher for senior level leaders in higher education to have an active and engaging presence online. These requirements are even showing up on job descriptions.
If you want to be even more competitive in an executive search or quickly improve your campus community engagement, the quickest way to do it is through your social media presence.
The Connected Exec Program is the only tailored-made coaching service for higher education leaders, providing customized support and strategy you need in a way that’s most relative to you, your campus, and your position.
When you think about your online presence, you may wonder:
📌 How do I really be present online in a genuine way?
📌 Is it possible to keep up with the pace of social media?
📌 What tools are really worth my time?
Instead of just jumping in and guessing what to do online, campus executives need to intentionally establish an executive presence and social media strategy that aligns with their career goals, university needs, and even personality.
Through One-On-One Coaching
I will teach you how to take your leadership and influence online with crystal clear intentions for logging on, including:
📲 A realistic and customized social media strategy that factors in your available time and campus support systems so you can quickly make an impact and know when it is working.
📲 A values-based brand clarity that will attract exactly the audience you want to engage with on and offline.
📲 A clearly aligned online presence to improve your campus culture and current objectives such as recruitment, student engagement, and/or fundraising.
📲 The most timely and updated knowledge and application of digital engagement tools that are critical in higher education. This knowledge allows you to independently manage your social media presence and quickly shift platforms and tactics when the tools change in the future.
📲 Increasing confidence to consistently engage in ways your community will react positively to.

Hi, I'm Josie!
Your Social Media Branding, Digital Leadership, and Executive Coach
After 12 years working on college campuses, I went rogue from traditional higher education roles—as an independent speaker, consultant, and coach on digital engagement and leadership in higher education. Every year I am honored to speak with thousands of teens, young adults, higher education professionals, and executives on how to humanize tech, post with a purpose, and prioritize building online communities.
I am particularly passionate about supporting and empowering campus executives who are ready to level up their influence and leadership using social media tools. I back up my curriculum and coaching with grant-funded and award-winning research, which you can find in the Handbook of Student Affairs Administration textbook, The Journal of Leadership Studies, Contested Issues in Student Affairs, New Directions in Student Services, and New Directions in Student Leadership.
I have been featured in Inside Higher Education, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and served as a keynote at CASE, NASPA, ACPA, NODA, NACA, ALE, and SACSCOC conferences. I have written extensively about campus leaders who are taking their influence online such as:
For the fourth year in a row, I was named to the “Top 50 Must-Read Higher Education Technology Blogs” by EdTech Magazine. My podcast, Josie & The Podcast, was featured by The Chronicle of Higher Ed and Inside Higher Ed. I am currently writing a book with Stylus Publishing, set to release in 2019, on digital leadership in higher education.
I’ve created The Connected Exec Program to teach you the tools to connect and celebrate with your campus community through digital engagement and leadership practices and support you in developing strategy that aligns with your entire life—from career goals to institutional priorities to digital wellness practices.

I help Higher Ed Executives upload Leadership & Influence Online
Executive positions in higher education are fulfilling and even fun, but these roles are also extremely stressful and lonely. You do not need to feel that you are alone to figure out social media. That's what I am for!
I have created this program to teach you how you can immediately make an impact on your community and empower you with confidence, creativity, and courage to fill your cup and your social media feed.
I am excited for your willingness to put yourself out there, out of your office, out of your executive cabinet, and out beyond the traditional walls of your campus. I know your students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and stakeholders can’t wait to genuinely connect with you and more strongly identify as members of your institutions.
Sending Digital Hugs, Loves, and Waves

I would love the chance to help you scale your leadership and influence, from technical skills on social media platforms to build a brand your community will love.
I am not yet in a campus executive role, but aspire to be. Is this program for me?
I work with a lot of professionals who will be transitioning into their first executive role within the next two years.
It is best to jump on a call to explore your career trajectory and timing to ensure this program will be ideal for your job search process.
How much will time per week will be required to complete the online curriculum and activities?
Nine out of the 12 weeks include a one-hour phone call, with online curriculum uploaded weekly to complete at your own pace.
On average my clients spend 2 hours per week, but this includes being active on social media platforms to engage with your campus community.
I will not be available for the full 90 days due to work travel, vacation, etc. Is the 90 days flexible?
We are not able to customize the 90 days, however, you will have access to the online curriculum and Slack community indefinitely.
Coaching calls are scheduled around your availability.
My institution is willing to support this as a professional development investment. Are you able to provide documentation of completion such as a certificate or report?
